About Us

Rural communities are wonderful places to live, work, and raise families. However, if you’re interested in acting, training and education opportunities are almost always hard to come by, or even non-existent.  Even now, in a world that is more connected via technology where auditions can be sent electronically  (making being an actor from a rural location actually plausible now), the training opportunities are still not there. This is where we come in: whether you wish to become a professional actor, or you want to practice the craft for your own fulfillment, we have professional training, in your back yard.

3. Advanced Acting: Scene Study
The application of skills from the previous classes. An exploration of performance through the study of theatre scenes and the practical performance of scripted work. 5. Corporate &  Industry Workshops
Acting classes are great for building skills that are useful in other areas of life, such as your staff's professional acheivements. For example: communication skills, problem-solving skills, team-building, conflict resolution, public speaking, and more. 6. Senior's Drama Exploration

Experience the joy of performance in a group setting where we will explore our voices, bodies, and imaginations. This will allow you to learn more about yourself and others, express yourself, get your body moving, experience wellness, and have fun, using drama games and acting exercises. This will lead to a short group performance that we will create together that can be shared with family and friends.

7. Acting on Camera

In this 3-level area, learn on-camera techniques and gain the additional skills necessary for work in the medium of film & television. Get practical experience performing in front of the camera, and understand basic on-set protocol and vocabulary. Then move on to performing full scenes on camera. This class is only for those that have completed at least 3 rounds of scene study, or have equivalent experience and/or training elsewhere. Adults only.

8. Audition Mastery

This class focusses on one of the most important aspects of an actor's career: the audition. Learn how to prepare for an audition, how to behave in the room, how to choose and prepare your material, on-camera technique for the audition room, interview skills, "rules" / Do's & Don'ts, tips and tricks, the difference between theatre and film auditions, and more. This class will cover both in-person auditions, and self-tape auditions. Only for those that have completed all three levels of Acting on Camera, or have equivalent relevant experience and/or training elsewhere.

9. Business Essentials

This lecture/seminar style class is set in a more traditional classroom setting, and the focus is learning all about the business side of acting. We will discuss and study both the theatre & film industries in Canada and the USA, understand how the union works, learn about actors' materials and how to put together a professional portfolio, how to market and brand yourself, and how to get work as an actor. Only for those wishing to pursue professional work. Must have completed Audition Mastery, or have relevant experience.

Testimonials

My time taking classes at Lem Studio was amazing. Brett is a fantastic teacher, and the experience was eye-opening, and a very important personal journey for me. What I learned not only helped me with the musical theatre production I was doing, but also, my new job in New York City.

I have worked with Lem Studio and Brett for many years. The classes were so important for my journey as a performer, and Brett became my mentor. He helped me to vigorously prepare for my theatre school applications, and I have now successfully applied to multiple fantastic schools in the UK and I feel confident and prepared. UPDATE: I have been accepted to the well known East 15 acting school (University of Essex) and have callbacks for 2 other schools!

I took acting classes with Lem Studio for years, when I was living in Shanghai. The class is what made my week. I looked forward to working with our lovely Canadian instructor Brett, and the class of fabulous people he brought together. I have grown as an artist, and as a person.
