About Us

Lem Studio is a service provider for actors, drama teachers, self-proclaimed thespians, and theatre enthusiasts, in Northern Alberta. We offer professional training in the form of classes & workshops, coaching sessions, seminars, and events, for those that do not have the opportunity due to living in a rural or remote area, or in a town that does not provide training and coaching opportunities.

Our Story

Lem Studio was founded by local Albertan Brett Lemay, in Shanghai, China, while he was working overseas teaching acting at Shanghai University. While there, he discovered a need for acting classes in English for other expats and international workers. He founded Lem Studio, and offered his highly popular Scene Study class to full houses month after month for numerous years, until he relocated back to Alberta in 2024. Now back in Alberta, he is seeing another need develop in his community and surrounding area, and so Lem Studio- Canada was born.

 Our approach

No matter your motivation, we deliver professional quality courses, workshops, and coaching sessions, considering North American film & theatre industry standards, university quality pedagogy, and traditional actor's methodology. We draw from a wide array of sources, making us well-rounded, and tailored to the students' needs. We use a variety of learning tools appropriate to the study of acting, and love to use improvisation in our teaching and coaching. Our classes are delivered offline & in-person, which is the only true way you can learn many of the core principles of the craft properly.
We use a tailored curriculum, Canadian pedagogy, and Canadian materials (such as Canadian plays/scripts) as much as possible. Taught by Canadian Practitioners with experience in Canada, and knowledge of the Canadian educational institutions that offer study in drama/theatre.  This makes us relatable, pertinent, and connected.
